Fires were set in the fields one after another, and pillars of fire suddenly burst into flame. The air flickered with scorching flames, and Mount Fuji also flickered. Mount Fuji was burning! Like a raging fire.

I heard that a lot of snow had fallen in the Asagiri area on the National Foundation Day, so I went out to Lake Tanuki. There was more snow than I had expected, and it was piled up on the surrounding roads and tree branches. I was thrilled to see the picturesque scenery reminiscent of a snowy country.

I met a lovely couple in the grounds of Sengen Shrine, where the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. Their backs looked like they were in a "moment of bliss." I asked the couple if I could take a photo of their backs, and they agreed, so I did.

While traveling by car, I noticed a beautiful cluster of flowers growing beside a narrow waterway for rice paddies. I was feeling confused because I didn't know what kind of pink flowers made up the majority of the flowers, but then I had the opportunity to talk to the landowner and when I asked him the name of the flower, he told me it was a "fly-weed dianthus." He treated them as if they were weeds, saying, "I thought I'd pulled them all out, but it seems the seeds were left behind and so they've come back like this," but to me they are the very definition of a beautiful "village flower garden."

The roses at Shiraito Nature Park are four-season roses that can be enjoyed from spring to autumn. In particular, the roses in spring have large, vibrant petals and many varieties bloom in full glory, drawing many visitors.

The Asagiri Plateau Photo Contest received 118 entries from across Japan, with 41 entries in the "Fujinomiya City of Flowers" category, for a total of 159 submissions. After rigorous judging on December 6th, 2022 (Tuesday), one grand prize winner, three runners-up, and eleven honorable mentions were selected ("Fujinomiya City of Flowers" category: 1 grand prize winner, 3 runners-up). The winning photographs will be used on the Fujinomiya City Tourism Association website, leaflets, posters, etc. *Prizes and other gifts will be sent to winners in December.
