Murayama Shrine and Fujisankohoji Important Day
A component of the Mount Fuji World Cultural Heritage Site. This shrine was a training ground for Mount Fuji worshippers and was once the starting point of the Murayama hiking trail. The temple grounds house the Dainichi Hall of Mount Fuji Kohoji Temple, along with Sengen Shrine, as part of the custom of syncretism between Shinto and Buddhism, and carry on the history of faith among mountain ascetics. The grounds are also home to a large cedar and a ginkgo tree, designated as a natural monument by Shizuoka Prefecture.
After a history of anti-Buddhist movements, the Buddha statues that were removed from Mount Fuji are still being protected today with the cooperation of local people.
There is also a museum attached to the facility, where exhibits change regularly, allowing visitors to learn about the history of the area.
There is an entrance to the Murayama Old Trail, which is said to be the oldest hiking trail on Mount Fuji.
| Business Information | The Murayama Sengen Shrine information center is open only on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays (10:15-XNUMX:XNUMX). When the center is open, a Mt. Fuji World Heritage guide is always on hand. |
