Fujinomiyashima Zoological and Cultural Center
The Fujinomiya City Buried Cultural Properties Center is a facility that investigates, organizes, stores and exhibits artifacts unearthed in Fujinomiya City during excavations. The exhibition room introduces pottery and stone tools excavated from the Oshika-kubo ruins, an archaeological site from the early Jomon period that is said to be one of the oldest settlements in Japan, as well as the historic site "Mt. Fuji" (Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine, Yamamiya Sengen Shrine, Murayama Sengen Shrine, Dainichido Hall, Hitoana Fujiko ruins), and the Former Fuji Daiguji-ya ruins (Omiya Castle ruins).
You can learn about the history of Fujinomiya, which dates back to the Paleolithic, Jomon, Yayoi, and Kofun periods, by looking at excavated pottery, stone tools, and artifacts up close and without any obstructions such as glass.
