Shiraito district is known as a region where rice cultivation thrives due to the abundant water source from the spring water of Mt. Fuji and the warm climate. Local residents have worked together to develop the fields over the course of 20 years, completing a modern agricultural foundation, and are livening up the area by calling it the "Heisei Rice Terraces" with the intention of passing it on to future generations.
At the Heisei Rice Terrace Festival, held once a year, 1 bamboo lanterns made by local children are lit, creating a fantastical atmosphere.
It is also a point on the Heisei Rice Terrace Nordic Walking course.
